Technical Skills

I am fluent in desktop utilities and software, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and publishing. I have experience in library, information, and electronic learning applications and have developed and maintained web content using web authoring programs and hand coding (HTML, XHTML, and CSS). I am an advanced user of many Internet and Web 2.0 applications, including blogging platforms and instant messaging, mashups, microblogging, RSS, browser-based screencasting, and social cataloging and networking tools. Some of the products with which I have experience follow.

Adobe Captivate

Adobe Captivate is “an electronic learning tool… which can be used to author software demonstrations, software simulations, branched scenarios, and randomized quizzes in .swf format” (Wikipedia). NB: The following projects are not fully accessible.

To fulfill an assignment for an information technologies course, a partner and I used Adobe Captivate to create a training module, “Downloading Audiobooks from the Web.”

For an education metadata exercise in my Metadata Management & Control course, I created three brief, informal screencasts. In one screencast, I use Adobe Captivate to demonstrate selected Google Language Tools.

In another education metadata exercise, I used Adobe Captivate to modify and publish an existing screencast for export to a Moodle course shell. The original screencast was comprised of audio description of pharmacology textbooks over still images of the books; I added the title and question slides.
